Hyaluronidase

Treatment of complications and correction of outcomes after hyaluronic-acid procedures.

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme used in aesthetic medicine primarily for therapeutic and rescue purposes—to dissolve hyaluronic acid in cases of incorrect volumization, vascular complications or an unsatisfactory aesthetic outcome.

Hyaluronidase treatment requires clinical experience, anatomical knowledge and proper qualification, as it is an intervention into existing tissue implants.

Indications for hyaluronidase

  • incorrect volumization after HA fillers,
  • asymmetry and product migration,
  • overcorrection or “overdone” effect,
  • persistent swelling after fillers,
  • compression of vascular structures,
  • urgent situations: perfusion disorders, ischemia, risk of necrosis.

Types of hyaluronidase

Classic (enzymatic) hyaluronidase

A strong, fast-acting enzymatic preparation used primarily:

  • for treatment of HA filler complications,
  • when rapid intervention is required,
  • for correction of excessive volumization.

It is characterized by:

  • high effectiveness in HA dissolution,
  • fast onset,
  • possibility of precise dosing depending on the clinical indication.

Plant-derived hyaluronidase

A milder alternative used in cases such as:

  • gentle aesthetic corrections,
  • chronic swelling after HA,
  • need for gradual modification of results,
  • patients requiring a more conservative approach.

Its action is:

  • slower and more controlled,
  • less aggressive for tissues,
  • useful in staged, planned corrections.

Pre-procedure diagnostics

Before hyaluronidase, the following are performed:

  • detailed analysis of the HA product used previously,
  • anatomical assessment of the area,
  • qualification to enzyme type and dose,
  • exclusion of contraindications.

In urgent cases, therapeutic decisions are made immediately according to medical safety principles.

Procedure

  • performed in an office setting,
  • involves precise injection of the enzyme into the area requiring correction,
  • may be a one-time or staged procedure depending on indication.

Effect

  • dissolution of excess or improperly placed HA,
  • improved perfusion and tissue safety,
  • reduction of swelling and asymmetry,
  • possibility of a correct aesthetic correction later if needed.

Results depend on the enzyme type, HA amount and individual tissue response.

Medical information

Hyaluronidase is performed only after medical qualification. In vascular complications it is a tissue-saving rescue procedure requiring immediate action.

Hyaluronidase is not an aesthetic treatment—it is a therapeutic and rescue tool forming a foundation of safe aesthetic medicine.
